Creation Station: A Textured Blog Hop

#stampinup   #creationstation   #faithfulinkspirations

Hello and welcome to another fun and inspiring Creation Station blog hop! This month's theme is "texture" and we can create projects using any form of texture, be it embossing paste, folders, or powders.  To get some inspiration, I looked up the definition of "texture" and chose these two art-related definitions:

  • the tactile quality of the surface of a work of art
  • the quality created by the combination of the different elements in a work of music or literature

So I went with a combination of both a tactile surface and a combination of different elements. I made two similar cards--one that's pretty straight-forward and one on which I did some experimentation.

First up is a card with simple elements. I embossed a 3-7/8" by 5" Basic White Card Stock panel with the Painted Texture 3D Embossing Folder. That gave the panel a tactile surface. Next, I used a Blending Brush to add Highland Heather, Coastal Cabana, and Granny Apple Green Inks diagonally across the panel. Honestly, I was "afraid" to use the Blending Brushes because I'm so heavy handed with our Stampin' Sponges, but these Blending Brushes are an absolute dream to work with! The trick is to start off your card stock so you don't get too much color in one spot. It couldn't be simpler.
I adhered this panel to a 4" by 5-1/4" Basic Black Card Stock mat, wrapped a length of Highland Heather Grosgrain Ribbon around, and then adhered everything to a Highland Heather Card Stock card base. I cut two leaf sprays--one from Basic White and one from Granny Apple Green Card Stock--using the Forever Flourishing Dies. I adhered these to the card with strategically placed Mini Glue Dots.

I stamped a sentiment from the "Forever Fern" stamp set in Highland Heather Ink onto Basic White Card Stock and quickly sprinkled on some Clear Stampin' Emboss Powder. I set this with my Heat Tool. I like to "pop" the sentiments on my card by embossing them. I cut this element out with one of the Tasteful Labels Dies and adhered it to the card with Stampin' Dimensionals.

To finish the card I added some Fresh Freesia In Color Jewels.
I thought that card turned out nicely, but I wanted to play some more with the idea. So I again started with a  3-7/8" by 5" Basic White Card Stock panel, but this time I stamped two of the textured images from the "Tasteful Touches" stamp set in Versamark Ink randomly over the panel. I used Clear Stampin' Emboss Powder and my Heat Tool to set these images. Then I embossed the panel with the  Painted Texture 3D Embossing Folder. I applied Highland Heather, Coastal Cabana, and Granny Apple Green Inks to this panel with Blending Brushes, just like before. This time, however, the clear embossing resisted the ink and gave me a different type of texture.
I adhered this panel to a 3-7/8" by 5" Basic Black mat and folded down one of the corners Susan Wong style, wrapped a length of the Highland Heather Grosgrain Ribbon around, and adhered it to a Highland Heather Card Stock card base. Susan also likes to get texture from ribbons by deconstructing them and I thought I'd give it a whirl.

I snipped a 2" piece of the Highland Heather ribbon and used my Take Your Pick Tool to pull out the metallic thread. It unraveled quite easily. I made a "nest" of the bendy silver thread and adhered my sentiment element directly on top of the nest. I was able to fiddle with the silver thread a bit, but I wanted it to be messy.
I cut a Granny Apple Green Card Stock label with one of the Tasteful Labels Dies and cut two leaf sprays from Vellum Card Stock using the Forever Flourishing Dies. I adhered the leaf sprays to the back of the label and then adhered everything directly to the card front. I used Stampin' Dimensionals to add my sentiment element on top of the Granny Apple Green label.

As with the first card, I finished by adding some Fresh Freesia In Color Jewels.
