Card Parts Potpourri

#stampinup  I've been doing a bit of rearranging in my stamping room. I've been setting aside stuff that I'm going to sell at a scrapbook and stamping yard sale in the fall. I've been pulling out all the retiring items (boo!) and adding stuff from the new catalog (yay!). 

Plus, I've re-done the lighting in my room. I had an old 5-headed hydra light fixture that was great because I could swing the lights down to my cards to take picture of them. But it was so old, the plastic shields were melted and disintegrating. I got a new floor fixture with shelves and a single spotlight. I thought that would do the trick, but I was wrong! The floor fixture's light is very subdued and the spotlight is really bright. I've been getting funky shadows. 

So, I bought a matching floor fixture and another spotlight. But I had to rearrange some things (well, practically everything) in the room in order to fit the lights in next to my dresser/photo area. Things were going really well, until I realized that I couldn't pull out the drawer of the dresser once I'd move it a foot to the right. My Big Shot station was in the way. Ugh. I had to move some rolling carts and the Big Shot table. It was like one of those square puzzles with the one square missing. I had to give up one of my carts to fit everything in....and now I need to rearrange the stuff in the drawers in the carts. Most of the stuff is just junk that I want to get rid of, but that's a chore for another day.

Needless to say, after all that furniture assembling and moving, I was pretty tired. And my creative juices were all dried up. I stared at some online challenges, but none of them were calling my name. I picked up a few card parts from my desk and started playing round with them...and I surprised myself with what I came up with! The only "new" thing on this card is the Rose Red card base. Everything else was on my desk!!

I love it when a plan, or in this case, a potpourri of card parts, comes together!!

Black & White & Red All Over

#stampinup  I really like to combine Basic Black and Whisper White with a pop of Real Red. That was my go-to color combination in the 80s and I still like it!



For this week's Watercooler Challenge, I started with a Basic Black card base and added a Whisper White panel embossed with the Stylish Stripes embossing folder. I wrapped a length of Real Red 1/8" Taffeta Ribbon around the Whisper White panel before adhering it to my card base.

I cut a 2"x2" Whisper White square and mounted it onto a 2-1/4" square of Basic Black. Next, I stamped the "Bloom for You" flower in Real Red onto a Whisper White scrap and punched it out with the coordinating Fun Flower Punch. I stamped a hexagon from the "Six-Sided Sampler" set in Real Red onto a Whisper White scrap and the sentiment in Memento Tuxedo Black. I fussy cut the hexagon, right along the edge. I punched a Basic Black hexagon and mounted my stamped Real Red piece onto that. I attached both the flower and hexagon with Stampin' Dimensionals. Easy-peasy!!

Blissful Flowers

#stampinup  I used a few leftover "card parts" for my card based on this week's CAS(E) This Sketch challenge. I had already stamped and punched two flowers in Blackberry Bliss from the "Bloom For You" stamp and they were just waiting for the right card.



I started with a Blackberry Bliss card base to which I added a Whisper White panel embossed with the Stylish Stripes Embossing Folder. Next, I added a strip of Blackberry Bliss striped paper from the Moonlight Designer Series Paper Pack. I tied a length of Whisper White 1/4" Cotton Ribbon around this.

I used my bone folder to curl the edges of the flowers before I applied them to the card with Stampin' Dimensionals. I like to do this so that the flowers don't seem so flat against the card. Finally, I stamped a sentiment from the "And Many More" stamp set onto a Whisper White scrap and punched it out with the Word Window punch--I punched the sentiment so that there was more space on the left because I wanted to tuck it under the flowers.

Freshly Made Bloom for You

So the temperatures here in mid-Maryland last weekend were in the 80s. Spring had arrived! This weekend the temps are barely going to get out of the 50s!! We had to turn our heat back on today and I'm freezing!!! Yet, it's still spring and the hardy flowers are poking their pretty heads out of the ground. And I want to grab all my flower stamps and get to creating!

I had a flash of an idea for this week's sketch over at the Freshly Made Sketches challenge blog. The Scalloped Tag Topper Punch would be perfect for the long element on the side of the sketch. I also wanted to use some Painted Blooms Designer Series Paper because it's so beautiful, don't you agree?



I cut an 8.5" x 11" sheet of Pacific Point card stock in half lengthwise--I've been in the mood for these "tall" cards lately. I added a strip of Painted Blooms DSP, but it didn't quite "pop" off the card, so I added a strip of Wild Wasabi card stock behind it. Then I added a length of Daffodil Delight 1/4" Cotton Ribbon.

Next I punched Whisper White tag using the Scalloped Tag Topper Punch and ran it through the Big Shot using the Fancy Fan Embossing Folder. I adhered this to the right side of the card with Stampin' Dimensionals. I stamped the "Bloom For You" flower in Daffodil Delight onto Whisper White card stock and punched it out with the Fun Flower Punch. I adhered this to the label with some more Stampin' Dimensionals.

Finally, I stamped a sentiment from the "And Many More" stamp set in Pacific Point onto a scrap of Whisper White. I flagged the end with the Banner Punch and adhered that just above the DSP element. 

Bright and pretty flowers for a cold spring day!!
