Fair Winds and Following Seas

#stampinup   #faithfulinkspirations   In my real job, I work with a lot of military personnel. Each service has its own, time-honored traditions. For example, when someone from the Navy moves to a new position or if they retire, they're given the traditional Naval blessing: "fair winds and following seas." Today's card reminds me of that traditional farewell.
I received this card during a masculine-themed swap at Stampin' Up's OnStage Live event in Orlando. It was designed by Hetty Jones and uses the "Lilypad Lake" stamp set. Hetty stamped the water image in Pool Party Ink onto Very Vanilla Card Stock. She stamped the sailboats on top of that in Night of Navy Ink. She filled in some details on the boats with a Cherry Cobbler Stampin' Write Marker.

Then she stamped a Night of Navy circle from the "Swirly Frames" set around the image and cut it out with one of the Layering Circles Framelits. She adhered this to a scalloped Cherry Cobbler circle, cut with another of the Layering Circles Framelits.

Hetty stamped a sentiment from the "Lilypad Lake" set in Night of Navy onto the corner of a 3-3/4" by 5" Very Vanilla panel. Then she added a 2" by 4-7/8" strip of Twinkle, Twinkle DSP to the panel, and adhered this to a 4" by 5-1/4" Cherry Cobbler Card Stock mat. She wrapped a length of Night of Navy and Cherry Cobbler Baker's Twine around this before adhering everything to a Very Vanilla Card Stock card base.

To finish the card, Hetty adhered the stamped sailboat image directly to the card.

Tomorrow, and for the rest of the week, I'm going to be sharing cards I received from stampers from Japan! I'm so excited to share them with you!!! Don't forget to come back and see them.

My Wonderful Friend

#stampinup   #faithfulinkspirations   When I got into this crazy stampin' business almost 20 years ago, my goal was to develop my skills so that I could give my BFF, Lynn, a run for her money. She is one of the most creative people I know and I pale by comparison. Twenty years later, I still haven't caught up to her, but I have improved immensely. Sometimes a little friendly competition is just what you need to stretch and grow in just about any endeavor.

I was surprised to find a card in the mail from Lynn last week. See, she's a wonderful artist, but she doesn't have that follow-through to get a card in the mail. I noticed that her hubby had addressed it. He's good like that. In the past, Lynn has also given me cards and stamps and asked me to get them addressed and in the mail. I'm good like that, too.

Anyway, Lynn sent me the card to thank me for a little thing I'd done for her--a thing for which I did not need thanks. But I was so pleased that she sent me one of her beautiful creations. And I'm pleased to share that creation with you!
Isn't that card gorgeous?! I tell ya: everything Lynn makes is a work of art! Lynn used the gorgeous "Lilypad Lake" and matching Lakeside Framelits to make this card. She stamped the crane in Memento Tuxedo Black Ink onto Whisper White Card Stock and added some subtle coloring with her Bermuda Bay and Grapefruit Grove Stampin' Write Markers. She gave him some shine with some Wink of Stella.

Next, Lynn sponged Lovely Lipstick, Pineapple Punch, and Bermuda Bay Inks onto Whisper White Card Stock, overlapping them a bit so they blended. She stamped over the Bermuda Bay with the wavy stamp from "Lilypad Lake" that was inked with a Versamark pad and stamped the sun in Grapefruit Grove. She "roughed up" the sun with her sponge so that it looks like it's shimmering in the sky. She cut out this piece with a Layering Oval Thinlit.

Lynn used a slightly larger Layering Oval Thinlit to cut an oval out of the center of a 4" by 5-1/4" Bermuda Bay panel and then embossed it with the Seaside Embossing Folder. She adhered this to a 4-1/8" by 5-3/8" Basic Black Card Stock mat. She tied on a length of Grapefruit Grove Grosgrain Ribbon and then used Stampin' Dimensionals to adhere this to a Bermuda Bay Card Stock card base.

Lynn adhered her stamped oval piece and the crane to the card with Stampin' Dimensionals. She stamped a sentiment  from the "Dragonfly Dreams" stamp set in Versamark onto a 1/2" strip of Basic Black Card Stock, sprinkled on some White Stampin' Emboss Powder, and set it with her Heat Tool. She used her Paper Snips to flag the end of this piece before adhering it directly to the card.

For a finishing touch, Lynn added three Basic Adhesive-Backed Sequins to the oval.

I love this card, but I love my BFF even more!!

Lakeside Sunset

#stampinup   #faithfulinkspirations   I've been sharing cards I received at the Proverbial Stampers & Friends event. I love to swap because I get samples of cards made with stamp sets I don't own or that I might have overlooked in the catalog. Honestly, I didn't think twice about the "Lilypad  Lake" stamp set and coordinating Lakeside Framelits...until I got my hands on this gorgeous card made by Kathy Johnson!
Kathy started with a 3-3/4" by 5" Whisper White mat. She sponged Balmy Blue Ink at the bottom of the mat and stamped a sentiment from the "Lilypad Lake" stamp set in Memento Tuxedo Black Ink at the top. Then she used one of the Lakeside Framelits to cut the water from the bottom of the Whisper White mat. Kathy adhered this piece to a 3-7/8" by 5-1/8" Bermuda Bay Card Stock mat and then onto a Basic Black Card Stock card base.

Next, Kathy used the Layering Circles Framelits to cut a 3" circle from Glossy White Card Stock. She sponged Daffodil Delight Ink in the center and Mango Melody Ink around the edges. She adhered this to the card, tucking it behind the die-cut water so it looks like the sun is setting and reflecting on the water. Awesome!

Finally, Kathy cut the crane and a couple of water plants from Basic Black Card Stock using the Lakeside Framelits. She adhered the crane to the card with Mini Stampin' Dimensionals and adhered the plants directly to the card.

This card is spectacular! You can get both the "Lilypad Lake" and Lakeside Framelits in a bundle and save 10% off the price of purchasing them separately. What a deal!
