Washi Stars

#stampinup   It's graduation time and I always have a list of graduates to send cards to. Our church does a graduation dinner every year to honor all the graduates. I remember the party they had for me way back in 1975 (can it be that long ago?!), so I like to make sure all our graduates get a card, at least!

I saw an awesome technique using washi tape on Mary Fish's blog and thought it would be perfect for a couple of graduation cards. I made both cards very quickly using Mary's technique.

For the first card, I applied all 5 types of the Cherry on Top Washi Tape (retiring) diagonally onto a Whisper White panel, wrapping the ends around to the back of the panel. Then I cut out a star shape using one of the Stars Framelits. I aligned this on top of a Bermuda Bay mat and cut out the same size star so that the Whisper White Thick Card Stock base would show through and I could stamp my sentiment from the "And Many More" set (retiring) in Bermuda Bay ink right onto the card base. Quick and cute--but wait! There's more!

I had the washi tape cut-out star left over to use on another card! For my second card, I stamped the sentiment from the "Pictogram Punches" set (retiring) in Bermuda Bay onto a Whisper White panel. I adhered the cut out washi tape star to the card with Stampin' Dimensionals. Then I put down a couple of strips of the Cucumber Crush washi tape onto a Whisper White scrap and punched it out with the star punch from the Itty Bitty Accents Punch Pack (retiring). I adhered the star on top of the sentiment with a tiny piece of a Stampin' Dimensional. Another quick and easy card!

Here they are together. So cute and quick. Great cards for graduation!

REMEMBER: Stampin' Up retiring items are only available while supplies last or until  May 31, 2016, whichever comes first. You're a Manly Star

#stampinup   I guess I've entered a neutral phase. My last couple of cards have been less than colorful. Maybe it's because it's been rainy here in Maryland for two days. I'm not complaining. We need the rain. I actually like rain. Maybe I'm transitioning to fall colors.

Anyway, for this week's Freshly Made Sketches Challenge, I used a neutral pallet--and I like it. I started with a Crumb Cake card base and added a Lost Lagoon mat. Next, I stamped the "You're a Star" sentiment from the "Pictogram Punches" stamp set in Lost Lagoon onto a Very Vanilla panel. I used my Stamp-a-Ma-Jig to get the sentiment aligned.

I cut some stars in Crumb Cake and Lost Lagoon card stock with the Stars Framelits Collection. I used the fabulous Fine-Tip Glue Pen to adhere the open star. Love that stuff! I stamped one of the stars from the "Pictogram Punches" set onto a Lost Lagoon scrap and punched it with the star punch from the Itty Bitty Accents Punch Pack and adhered it with a Glue Dot.  All the stars, except the small Crumb Cake star are adhered directly to the Very Vanilla Panel.  I used a Stampin' Dimensional to adhere the small Crumb Cake star.

Black & White with a POP of Red

#stampinup   I'm all about black and white and red. Ever since the 1980s, this has been my go-to color combination. I try to branch out to other colors, but something about black and white and a pop of red really speaks to me.

So, when I saw the opportunity to participate in the Black & White with a Pop of Color swap at the Stampin' Up convention, I jumped on it. I knew right away that I'd be ordering some wonderful Everyday Chic DSP for my design.

I stamped the I {heart} You sentiment from the "Pictogram Punches" stamp set in Memento Tuxedo Black onto a Whisper White panel. I used my Stamp-a-ma-Jig to position it just so. I adhered this panel to a Basic Black card base.

Next, I cut a 1" strip of Everyday Chic DSP and adhered this to a 1-1/8" strip of Basic Black. I tied some Basic Black Stitched Satin Ribbon around the strip and adhered the strip to the card.

I punched a heart from Red Glimmer Paper with the heart punch from the Itty Bitty Accents Punch Pack. I adhered this to the {heart} on the stamped sentiment with a half Stampin' Dimensional.

Finally, I colored one of the hearts on the DSP with a Real Red Stampin' Write Marker. So cute!!

Masculine Wishes

#stampinup  One of my friends is hosting a birthday card stamp-a-stack this weekend. I've designed four cards for her and her guests to make. I've already shared the first one. Today I'm sharing another card. Over the next few weeks, I'll be sharing the others. Today's card is supposed to be a masculine card. I'm not sure I hit the mark.

The color combination at the Create with Connie and Mary challenge blog sure seemed like masculine colors to me. (Oy! The combo is Lost Lagoon, not Island Indigo--oopsies!) I wanted to keep the design simple--not too fussy--and I think a few banners and the "Perfect Pennants" stamp set seem masculine.

CCMC362

I started with a 2" strip of Island Indigo card stock that I flagged with the Banner Triple Punch. Then I took a 1.5" strip of Crumb Cake and flagged it with the same punch. Using my Stamp-a-Ma-Jig, I aligned the "make a wish" sentiment and stamped it in Real Red.

Next, on a Crumb Cake panel, I added a 3/4" strip of Bohemian designer series paper. I flagged the ends with the Banner Punch. I stamped the polka dot banner from the "Perfect Pennants" set in Real Red above and below the DSP banner.

Here's where it started to go astray: I added a length of Real Red 1/4" Cotton Ribbon to the top of the stamped banner. I added the banner to the card with Stampin' Dimensionals. Then I stamped some hearts from the "Pictogram Punches" set in Real Red onto Crumb Cake scraps and punched them out with the heart punch from the Itty Bitty Accents Punch Pack. I adhered these to the card with Stampin' Dimensionals, cut in half.

Finally, I adhered the Crumb Cake panel to a Crumb Cake card base with Stampin' Dimensionals.

I really like how this card turned out, but I'm not sure it's still masculine. I suppose one could ditch the ribbon--or at least not add the bow. And instead of the hearts, one could use the starts from "Pictogram Punches." Well, at least I can say that it's not too fussy.
