I Love CAS

Over at Addicted to CAS, the challenge this week is "love." What a perfect challenge! Valentine's Day is coming up and although I don't usually make my sweetie a card (I don't know why--I just don't), he's been away for almost 3 months and he's coming home the day after Valentine's Day, so I thought I'd better make a card for him.

This card was pretty quick and easy to pull together and (shocker) there's NO stamping on it!! IKR?! I used  several Stampin' Up product to give the card some texture. I used my Simply Scored Board to score a double border around the black panel (which you can barely see in the upper right-hand corner).  I used the Perfect Polka Dots Embossing Folder to give the white panel a little texture. The I {heart} You sentiment is one of the elements in the Label Thinlit Card Die. I cut one in Silver Glimmer Paper and one in Red Glimmer Paper and adhered just the red heart with a dimensional. I thought the card still needed a bit of ribbon so I added some Real Red Taffeta ribbon with three bows. I hope it's still manly with those bows.

(Card Stock: Real Red, Whisper White, Basic Black, Silver Glimmer and Red Glimmer Papers; Accessories: Thinlits Label Die, Simply Scored, Perfect Polka Dots Embossing Folder, Real Red Taffeta Ribbon)

Fab Friday Challenge 26

I'm so sad that I missed the silver anniversary Fab Friday Challenge #25.  Life gets in the way. With three kids in two sports and a full-time job, I'm lucky I get to play with my stamps at all.  I try to make it a priority to stamp a lot on the weekend so I have pretty things to post during the week.  But sometimes lounging in bed until mid-afternoon watching HGTV gets the best of me--especially when my DH indulges me by bringing me brunch in bed!  He's the greatest!!  I did manage to drag myself away from my bedroom oasis to stamp a few things on Saturday.  I was bound and determined to create something for the Fab Friday Challenge #26.  I saw a great layout for a card in the most recent issue of the Stampin' Success magazine that we get every other month just for being a demonstrator.  And I love the Sweater Weather DSP in the holiday mini....so I was ready for this challenge. And BONUS!! It's my BFF Lynn's birthday, so she gets the FF26 challenge card!!  (Lynn also entered her creation in this color challenge!)

Here's the challenge:

And here's my creation!! Let me know what you think!
(Stamp Sets: Everything Eleanor, Teeny Tiny Wishes; Card Stock: Soft Sky, Tangerine Tango; DSP: Sweater Weather; Ink: Chocolate Chip; Accessories: 1-1/4" Scallop Punch, Apothecary Accents Framelits, pop-up banner from Label Card Die Thinlits, Basic Pearls, Linen Thread)

First Three Cards for My Upcoming Christmas Card Class

Following the lead of one of my fave stampers, Lyssa Zwolanek, whom I've mentioned several times in my blog, I'm running a Christmas card making club. I'm designing 3 different Christmas cards each moth and my club members will stamp 4 cards of each design. So, they'll be making 12 cards a month.  We're meeting in August, September, October, and November--and we'll have 48 hand-stamped Christmas cards completed before Thanksgiving!! That's unheard of in my life! I'm going to be stamping along with my club members. Thanks for the terrific idea, Lyssa.

Wanna see the cards? Here are the first three. Don't you wish you were making these, too?

Hello There!

I'm still playing around with my Thinlits Label Card Die.  I was poking around in my stack of Epic Day This & That DSP and found an awesome piece that I didn't remember was in there!  I love it when that happens!  My new favorite color combination is gray and yellow.  I really like Summer Starfruit and Basic Gray, but this DSP uses Daffodil Delight with Basic Gray, and that suits me just fine.

I got the "You're Amazing" stamp set at Convention last year and I haven't used it much.  I adore that elephant, but I could never come up with an idea to use him, try as I might.  The Epic Day This & That DSP started calling to me and my elephant and here's what I came up with.  I like the way the honeycomb embossing plays off the hexagons in the DSP, which has a "global" feel to me.  I'm pretty pleased with how this all came together.  What do you think?  Leave me a comment and let me know!

(Stamp Sets:  You're Amazing, Timeless Talk;  Inks:  Basic Gray, Island Indigo; DSP:  Epic Day This & That; Card Stock:  Daffodil Delight, Basic Gray, Smokey Slate; Accessories:  Thinlits Label Card Die, Word Window and Modern Label Punches; Antique Brads, Basic Gray 1/4" Stitched Grosgrain Ribbon; Honeycomb Embossing Folder)

Another Card Thinlits Card Die

During Stampin' Up's Convention, CEO and Co-Founder Shelli Gardner demonstrated the new Thinlits Card Dies.  Shelli showed several ways to make cards with cool moves using each of the Thinlits Card Dies.  As I mentioned in an earlier post,  I won the Label Card Thinlits Die (133479--$32.95) during one of the prize patrols.  Woot!  I've been playing with it ever since.

Label Card Thinlits Die

Here's my take on an extended card that Shelli showed during her demonstration.  Here's the outside.  The right flap tucks in under the hexagon element and the ribbon slides off to open the card.

(Stamp Set:  Hello Lovely; Ink:  Island Indigo; Card Stock:  Island Indigo, Smoky Slate, Soft Sky; DSP:  Epic Day This and That;  Accessories:  Calypso Coral 3/4" Chevron Ribbon, Antique Brads, Hexagon and Boho Blossoms Punches)
And here's the inside:

(Stamp Sets:  Yippee-Skippee! and Gorgeous Grunge; Inks:  Island Indigo, Tangerine Tango, Pool Party;  Card Stock:  Soft Sky, Basic Gray, Whisper White, Island Indigo; DSP:  Epic Day This and That; Accessories:  Thinlits Label Card Die, Epic Day This and That Washi Tape; Hexagon and Boho Blossom Punches)

Lyssa's "In Love with Color" Weekly Challenge

I recently saw that one of my fave stampers, Lyssa Zwolanek, hosts a weekly color combination inspiration challenge on her blog Song of My Heart Stampers.  Lyssa posts three color combos on Sunday mornings.  This week (8/4/2013) the combos are:
  1. Wisteria Wonder, Elegant Eggplant, Calypso Coral and Pear Pizzaz
  2. Summer Starfruit, Midnight Muse, Pool Party and Rich Razzleberry
  3. Soft Sky, Island Indigo, Garden Green and Crisp Cantaloupe
Color Refresh-010
Since I'm on vacation, I don't have all my stampin' supplies with me, so I had to make do with what I brought with me. I'm playing along with color combo number three--AND using the new Thinlits Label Card Die!!  Here's what I came up with:

If I knew what I was doing with picture-taking and editing, you'd see that I've used Soft Sky from the Sweater Weather DSP in the Holiday Mini Catalog, Crisp Cantaloupe and Island Indigo Ink and Card Stock.  To get the 4th color for the challenge, I used the Season of Style Washi Tape from the Holiday Mini (which may or may not be Garden Green, but let's just pretend, shall we?).  I adhered the washi to Whisper White Card Stock and then cut the arrows using the elements in the Thinlits Label Card Die set.  Other "ingredients" for this card are Yippee-Skippee!, Gorgeous Grunge,  and Hello Lovely Stamp Sets, Basic Rhinestones, and the Square Lattice Embossing Folder.

Welcome to In Love With Color! Weekly color combining inspiration can be easily found at your fingertips here at Song of My Heart Stampers. Updated with the latest Stampin' Up colors, and keeping an eye on trends in fashion, home decor and papercrafting, Song of My Heart Stampers shares three different color combos every Sunday morning for your inspiration.Want to play along?
