Honeyed Butterflies

Breaking News! This card was chosen as one of the Top 3 for this challenge!!!

I've been thinking about the sketch on this week's Create with Connie and Mary challenge blog for several days. Sometimes I see a sketch and the design team's creations and everything I think about creating seems like I'm just re-creating someone else's work. I think I get stuck for a while.

So today I took a look at my stamps and decided that I haven't used the Papillon Potpourri set for a while. I thought the monarch butterfly would look pretty cool stamped in Memento Tuxedo Black onto Hello Honey card stock. That decision set my color scheme. Then I remembered the butterfly vellum sheet on the Sale-A-Bration Sheer Perfection Vellum Stack and I incorporated a circle of that into the design. Finally, I found a scrap of black and white DSP from the Stacked with Love DSP stack.

I needed a neutral color as my mat and, after a few tries, I decided Basic Gray would fill the bill. I embossed it with the Honeycomb embossing folder. For the diagonal element, I used a length of Hello Honey Stitched Satin Ribbon. Instead of using another shape or circle, I decided that cock-eyed bow would be an interesting element.

I didn't add a sentiment to this card. I think the design stands on its own. I like it when the card designs itself!!
