Creation Station: Embossing Tricks & Tips

Hello and welcome to another Creation Station blog hop! This month our talented design team will be showing you some embossing tips and tricks. I've made four cards using the Fern 3D Embossing Folder--each is along the same theme, but each uses a different embossing trick.  I actually made these cards to enter into the Howard County (Maryland) Fair. It's my first time entering anything into the fair (I've also entered some knitted items) and I'm super excited to see what happens. I don't expect to win anything, but I think it will be a fun experience. I'll let you know how it goes! (ETA:  Alas, I didn't get a ribbon for my cards--but I know what the judges are looking for, so next year, I'll wow them. Oh! I won 3 blue ribbons and one white (3rd place) ribbon for my knitting. Not a bad first year!)

First up is my Bermuda Bay card. I used the Fern 3D Embossing Folder to emboss a 4" by 5-1/4" Basic White panel. I adhered a 1-1/2" by 4" strip of Pretty Prints Designer Series Paper and wrapped a length of White Glittered Organdy Ribbon around before adhering the panel to a Bermuda Bay Card Stock card base. Next, I stamped the leaf spray from the "Nature's Prints" stamp set in Bermuda Bay Ink onto Basic White Card Stock and cut it out with the matching Natural Prints Die. I also cut the wreath image from Bermuda Bay Card stock with one of the Natural Prints Dies and cut a few sprays of leaves from it. I used Stampin' Dimensionals to adhere the stamped image to the card and Mini Glue Dots to adhere the card stock leaves.

To finish the card, I stamped a sentiment from the "Nature's Prints" set in Bermuda Bay Ink onto Basic White and cut it out with a Natural Prints Die. I adhered this to the card with Stampin' Dimensionals. Finally, I added some Soft Succulent In Color Opal Rounds for the bling factor!

For the next card, I used the Fern 3D Embossing Folder to emboss a 2" by 3" rectangle of Vellum Cardstock.

I used strategically placed Mini Glue Dots to adhere this to a 3-3/4" by 5" piece of  Pretty Prints DSP and then onto a Calypso Coral Card Stock card base. I cut a wreath from Calypso Coral Card Stock and used Mini Glue Dots to adhere it to the card. I stamped the same leaf spray image in Calypso Coral Ink onto Basic White Card Stock and cut it out with its matching die. I also stamped the image in Calypso Coral onto Basic White and cut it out with the label die in the Natural Prints Die set. I adhered both of these to the card with Stampin' Dimensionals. To finish, I added some Opal Rounds.

For my Starry Sky card, I stuck to the blue and white "theme" of the Sun Prints Suite. That's what drew me to the suite in the first place!

I embossed a 4" by 5-1/4" Basic White Panel with the 3D Embossing Folder and then I tore off a corner and roughed it up a bit. I adhered a corner of the Sun Prints DSP to a Starry Sky Card Stock card base and then adhered the embossed panel so that the DSP peeks out. Again, I cut the wreath from Starry Sky Card Stock and then cut some leaf sprays. The stamped leaf spray is in Starry Sky Ink, as is the sentiment. I used one of the circle dies from the Stylish Shapes Dies to cut out the sentiment. I looped some Starry Sky Metallic Woven Ribbon behind the sentiment piece and frayed the ends. This card uses Iridescent Rhinestones for the bling factor.

For the last card, I embossed a 3-7/8" by 5-1/8" piece of Blackberry Bliss Pretty Prints DSP and stamped the image and sentiment in Blackberry Bliss Ink. I adhered the embossed DSP to a 4" by 5-1/4" Basic White panel and wrapped a length of Organdy Glimmered Ribbon around before using Stampin' Dimensionals to adhere the panel to a Thick Basic White Card Base. I finished the card by added some Opal Rounds.
