Last-Chance Products: Marquee Messages

#stampinup   #faithfulinkspirations   I'm always a little sad to see a favorite stamp set retire. "Marquee Messages" is one of those sets. I think it's fresh and fun and can be used for teens and grown-ups alike. Because I'm going to miss this set, I decided I needed to use it one last time before it goes into the retirement box.

This card is quick and easy--well, if you don't count the fussy cutting. I LOVE to fussy cut! I think it's very relaxing. I know people don't like it so much but the fussy cutting on this card is mostly straight lines and you can get 'er done in no time.

I started by stamping the marquee stamp in the retiring Basic Black Archival Ink* onto Whisper White Card Stock. I added the "It's Your" sentiment in the center and "birthday" sentiment on the banner. I set this aside to dry because the archival ink needs a little bit of time to absorb into the paper so it doesn't smear. (Ask me how I know.) 

I stamped the marquee again on a scrap paper to use as my pattern for the blue glimmer paper from the retiring Myths & Magic Glimmer Paper Collection. I fussy cut the arrow from my scrap paper and laid it on top of the glimmer paper and cut that out. I also eyeballed the two glimmer paper stars--but you could use a pattern to cut them out.

I layered a 3-3/4" by 5" piece of retiring black and white striped Petal Passion Designer Series Paper onto a 3-7/8" by 5-1/8" piece of Bermuda Bay Card Stock and then onto a Thick Whisper White Card Stock Card base.

When the stamped marquee was dry, I fussy cut it, adhered the glimmer paper arrow and stars, and then added this element to the card with Stampin' Dimensionals. Fun, right?

*The archival inks are retiring, but there will still be Memento Tuxedo Black and StazOn Jet Black in the upcoming catalog, along with a Classic Basic Gray Ink.

Happy Mother's Day

#stampinup   #faithfulinkspirations   So, I'm just a day late for Mother's Day--and I got my card in the mail late, too. But it's the thought that counts, right? My darling husband sent his mother some yummy chocolate dipped strawberries that arrived in time for Mother's Day. But the card, well, I just didn't have a lot of mojo last week, so I waited until the last moment to make it and get it in the mail.

My hubby and I spent a whirlwind few days a couple of weeks ago. We drove two days to Arkansas to pick up our twins from their first year of college. We spent the 24 hours we were in Arkansas cleaning their rooms, packing their stuff, making a bajillion trips to the storage unit, getting a tire patched since we ran over a screw somewhere, and having a couple of family meals. Then we drove home for two days. It was exhausting. And when I got home, I was still super exhausted (or lazy) for the following week. I didn't even open the door to my stamping room--until I realized that I needed to get a card made and in the mail for my mother-in-law. Yikes! But I had one in mind and I pulled it together pretty quickly. It uses some continuing products and some retiring products. What do you think?

My mother-in-law loves purple, so I thought I'd use some Elegant Eggplant Ink and Card Stock for a last time before it retires. I stamped the dragonfly from the "Dragonfly Dreams" stamp set in Elegant Eggplant Ink onto Whisper White Card Stock and cut it out with the coordinating Detailed Dragonfly Framelit. I tousled some Gold Thread and adhered it to the back of the dragonfly before using Stampin' Dimensionals to adhere the dragonfly to a Whisper White square cut with one of the Stitched Shapes Framelits. I adhered that to an Elegant Eggplant square cut with one of the Layering Squares Framelits.

I stamped a flourish from the continuing "Timeless Textures" stamp set in Elegant Eggplant, twice, onto a 3-3/4" by 5" Whisper White panel and adhered it to a 3-7/8" by 5-1/8" Elegant Eggplant panel. Then I adhered this to a Thick Whisper White Card Stock card base. I adhered the dragonfly element to the card with Stampin' Dimensionals.

Next, I stamped a sentiment from the "Dragonfly Dreams" set in Versamark onto a 1/2" strip of Elegant Eggplant Card Stock. I sprinkled on some White Stampin' Emboss Powder and set it with my Heat Tool.  I flagged the ends with my Paper Snips and then added this to the card with Stampin' Dimensionals. For a finishing touch, I added some Glitter Enamel Dots.

Creation Station: Trees and Textures

I was honored to be chosen to be a display stamper at Stampin' Up's April OnStage event and I got a bunch of stuff to make the displays--including the gorgeous "Rooted in Nature" stamp set! Afterwards, those who attended OnStage were able to purchase products before anyone else and I got the matching Nature's Roots Framelits Dies. Once the new catalog goes live on June 1st, you'll be able to purchase this stamp set AND the framelits in a bundle. Let's take a look at what I've created! (I'll have plenty more samples with this stamp set closer to the June catalog launch date--so keep checking back.)

Here's the card. I also used one of my favorite returning stamp sets--"Timeless Textures"--as well as some new ribbon.

Let me tell you about the background and then I'll give you a trick for getting Tranquil Tide foliage and Early Espresso branches.  

I started with a 3-3/4" by 5" piece of Crumb Cake Card Stock and I used my Stamparatus tool to stamp the wood image from the "Timeless Textures" set in Versamark.  First, I placed the Crumb Cake Card Stock in my Stamparatus, inked up the stamp, and closed the lid and stamped, like this:

Next, I stepped the Stamparatus lid down one notch, inked up the stamp and stamped. I repeated this all the way down one side of the card stock.

I quickly added Clear Stampin' Emboss Powder and set these images with my Heat Tool.  I rotated the card stock 180 degrees and repeated the process down the other side of the card stock. When I finished, I adhered this piece to a 3-7/8" by 5-1/8" Early Espresso mat.

Next, I stamped my tree--and I used the Stamparatus again.  When I first got this stamp set, I kept trying to ink it up and use a baby wipe to omit the places where the tree's branches are, but that didn't work. at. all.  Then I tried the Stamparatus and that was a genius, albeit accidental, move!  I inked the top of the tree in Tranquil Tide Ink, used a baby wipe to omit the trunk, and then closed the Stamparatus to stamp onto a Whisper White scrap.

Next, I used an Early Espresso Stampin' Write Marker to color in the branches and the tree trunk, like this:

Because the strong magnets hold the card stock in the same place, you can use the Stamparatus to stamp the image over and over. I actually stamped the Early Espresso portions three times to get good coverage. After I finished, I cut out the tree with the matching Nature's Roots Framelit.

I added some Tranquil Tide Ruffled Ribbon to the embossed Crumb Cake piece and then adhered everything to a Tranquil Tide Card Stock Card Base.

I stamped one of the sentiments from the "Rooted in Nature" set in Early Espresso Ink onto a 1" strip of Whisper White and flagged the end with the Banner Triple Punch. I adhered the sentiment directly to the card and used a combination of regular and Mini Stampin' Dimensionals to adhere the tree to the card.

Here's a close up so you can see the clear embossing on the texture in the background.

Oh! I wanted to say that when I got the "Rooted in Nature" set I was sure that our much beloved "Lovely as a Tree" was going to retire. I was pleasantly surprised to find that it's still in the upcoming catalog!!
