Honey Bee

#stampinup   #faithfulinkspirations   I'd had an idea in my head for while to use a watercolor technique and the cute little bee from the "Pun Intended" stamp set. When I set out to make the card, I was so happy to find that it turned out just as I hoped it would!!

I started with a 2.5" square of watercolor paper. I used my water-filled Stampin' Spritzer to wet the paper down. You have to get the paper really wet for this technique. I squirted a few drops of Daffodil Delight, Crushed Curry, and Delightful Dijon reinkers into the lid of an embellishment container.  Then, I took a small paintbrush and picked up a drop of the reinker and placed the tip of the brush onto the wet watercolor paper. I let the colors flow wherever they wanted to go. I kept adding color or diluting the color with until I got a honeyed background.

I dried the paper using my Heat Tool because I'm too impatient for it to wait to dry naturally. Then I stamped the bee from the "Pun Intended" set in Basic Black Archival Ink on top of the watercolor paper. I added the "happy bee-day" sentiment to the corner, also in Basic Black Archival Ink.

I adhered the stamped image onto a slightly larger Basic Black square and then onto a slightly larger Delightful Dijon square. I added this to a Basic Black panel and tied a length of Basic Black Solid Baker's Twine around before adhering it to a Delightful Dijon card base, cut lengthwise, using Stampin' Dimensionals.

This card was really easy to make and despite my impatience over drying time--which I sped up--it only took a few minutes to make. I think it's adorable, if I do say so myself (and I do)!!

Not Too Bright

#stampinup   I've got the most wonderful hairdresser. She gets my color just right and she always gives me a good blow-out so that my hair is straight for a week. And she's so fun! We just chat and chat while she's taking care of me.


Well, after my last appointment, I got home and realized I'd forgotten to tip her. Ugh. I couldn't believe it! Then I thought of one of the cute sentiments in the "Pun Intended" host set would make a cute card that I could send her to apologize for my forgetfulness and enclose a check for the tip I'd forgotten.


For this card, I cut a sheet of Real Red card stock lengthwise. I added a Basic Black panel. Then I cut a Basic Black and Very Vanilla piece of Playful Palette Designer Series Paper just a bit smaller than the Basic Black panel and added it to the card.


Finally, I cut a piece of Very Vanilla Card Stock so that it would layer nicely on the card. I stamped the light in Real Red and the "Sorry, I'm Not Too Bright" sentiment in Basic Black Archival Ink. So cute! I especially like that the filiment in the light spells out "love" because I really do love my hairdresser!!

You Light Up My Life

#stampinup   This week's Pals Paper Arts Challenge is a simple sketch. Sometimes the simple sketches are the hardest--for me, anyway. The challenge is doubly hard because I only have one package of designer series paper while I wait impatiently for my first order to arrive tomorrow. I had to improvise on the background of the design.

 

I knew the medallion from the "Moroccan Nights" stamp set would be perfect for the circle element, but I wasn't sure how to fill in the "blank" space. Fortunately, this set has a small star element that worked nicely! So, I stamped the medallion in Cajun Craze onto the corner of a Very Vanilla panel and then randomly stamped the star in Dapper Denim. I adhered this piece to a Dapper Denim mat and then onto a Cajun Craze card base.

Next, I stamped one of the lanterns from the "Moroccan Nights" set in Cajun Craze onto a  2" x 4" Very Vanilla piece. I stamped a sentiment from the "Pun Intended" host set in Dapper Denim. I adhered this to a just-larger piece of Dapper Denim. I tied a length of Dapper Denim Ruched Ribbon around the top of this piece before adhering it to the card.

I really like how the new Dapper Denim In Color works with the classic Cajun Craze for these Moroccan-flavored designs.

Creation Station: New Product Showcase

#stampinup   #creationstation   It's the first Sunday of the month and you know what that means, right?! It's time for another Creation Station blog hop. This time we're featuring products from the NEW Stampin' Up catalog!! Woot! I'm so excited to share some great stamp sets and colors with you. I can't wait to see what the others on our design team have come up with. Let's get started!!

My first card uses the "Moroccan Nights" stamp set. I love the textures in this set and I know I'm going to use the large medallion stamp a lot! I started by stamping the medallion in Dapper Denim on the corner of a Very Vanilla panel. Then I stamped the row of rosettes across the top, also in Dapper Denim. 

Next, I stamped the lantern in Versamark and heat embossed it with the awesome new Copper Stampin' Emboss Powder. That stuff is spectacular! I stamped a sentiment from the "Thoughtful Banners" set in Versamark and heat embossed that in copper as well.

I tied a length of Dapper Denim Ruched Ribbon across the top, making the knot right above the lantern so that it looks like it's hanging from the ribbon. I adhered the Very Vanilla panel to a Dapper Denim mat and then onto a Cajun Craze card base to complete the card.

For my next card, I used the totes adorable host set, "Pun Intended." I'm in LOVE with this set (maybe because I'm just a little bit snarky)! I stamped the camera image in Memento Tuxedo Black at the corner of a Very Vanilla panel. I stamped the "snappy birthday" sentiment and dotted line in the yummy new Sweet Sugarplum ink.

I cut a 1.5" wide strip of a sheet from the Playful Palette Designer Series Paper Stack and adhered it to a slightly wider strip of Basic Black Card Stock. I tied a length of Sweet Sugarplum Ruched Ribbon around this piece before adhering it to the Very Vanilla Panel. I adhered this panel onto a Basic Black mat and then onto a Sweet Sugarplum card base.

I wasn't completely happy with the card and then I struck on an idea:  I stamped the camera again onto a scrap of Very Vanilla and fussy cut it. I added a little piece of the Playful Palette DSP to the flash bar. I adhered this to the card with Stampin' Dimensionals. Sometimes just a little bit of texture or dimension takes a card from nice....to WOW!
