Sailing Away

When the "Swirly Bird" stamp set first debuted in Stampin' Up's annual catalog, it didn't catch my eye. But after I saw loads of examples, it was a "must-have" set for me. I love the elements and all the different things you can create with it. I wanted to create a special card for a coworker who is sailing away into retirement. And I have a tip for you that I'm so excited to share!!

I started by embossing a 3-3/4" by 5" piece of Whisper White Card Stock with the Subtle Dynamic Textured Impressions Folder. I initially did this just to add some texture, but when I took a good look at it, I realized it looked a lot like watercolor paper, and, oh my goodness! It was a revelation!! You can make your own faux watercolor paper!! I used an Aqua Painter to lay on a wash of Soft Sea Foam and a wash of Blueberry Bushel Inks. I was so pleased with the effect!


Next, I stamped the sailboat parts from the "Swirly Bird" stamp set in Blueberry Bushel, Soft Sea Foam, and Crumb Cake Inks onto Whisper White Card Stock. I fussy cut each piece with my Paper Snips and adhered them to the card with Mini Stampin' Dimensionals. I stamped the flag in Blueberry Bushel directly onto the Whisper White Panel. I adhered this piece to a 3-7/8" by 5-1/8" Blueberry Bushel Card Stock mat and then onto a Thick Whisper White Card Stock card base.


I stamped a sentiment from the "Thoughtful Banners" stamp set in Versamark Ink onto Vellum Card Stock. I sprinkled on some Gold Embossing Powder and set it with my Heat Tool. Then I punched it out with the Classic Label Punch. I adhered this to the sailboat with some strategically placed Glue Dots. I finished the card by adding some Twinkle Adhesive-Backed Sequins.

I'm so pleased with how this card turned out. I know my friend will love it, too!

Swirly CAS Birthday

#stampinup   #faithfulinkspirations   Sometimes when I'm stuck for an idea, I'll head to Pinterest for inspiration. And sometimes I find a card that is absolute perfection so that the only thing to do is to CASE it (copy and share everything). Today's card is just slightly changed up from the original.

I started by cutting the leafy swirl from Basic Black Card Stock using the Swirly Scribbles Framelits.  I adhered this to a 3-4/4" by 5" piece of Whisper White Card Stock with the Fine-Tip Glue Pen.  Next, I stamped the two sizes of swirly circles from the "Swirly Bird" stamp set in Berry Burst and Powder Pink on Whisper White scraps. I cut these out with the matching framelits from the Swirly Scribbles Framelits. I stamped both sizes of leaves from the "Swirly Bird" set in Emerald Envy onto Whisper White scraps and cut these out with their matching framelits. I added these elements to the card with Glue Dots.

I stamped the "happy birthday" sentiment from the "Thoughtful Banners" stamp set in Memento Tuxedo Ink onto the Whisper White panel before adding it to a 3-7/8" by 5-1/8" Basic Black Card Stock mat. I adhered this to a Thick Whisper White Card Stock card base, cut lengthwise.

I love these bright colors and clean and simple design together!

Baby Sailboat

#stampinup   #faithfulinkspirations  I don't know about you, but since I'm a woman of a certain age, all of my peers are done with the baby making business and we're all far too young to be grandmothers yet. So, we don't have much of an opportunity to make cards for baby showers or new babies. Until we need one--like for the explosion of new babies at our church. I hate it when I don't have a card ready to go.

Fortunately, the "Badges & Banners" stamp set has a "welcome, baby" banner, so that's a start. But what about a cute image for the card? Off to Pinterest! That's right--I peruse Pinterest for inspiration. All. The. Time.   I found a cute little baby card that uses the "Swirly Bird" stamp set, which I happen to own. Huzzah! Here's what I came up with.

I used the elements from the "Swirly Bird" set to stamp the sweet sailboat onto a Whisper White square that I'd cut with one of the Layering Squares Framelits. I used Rose Red, Old Olive, Crushed Curry, and Night of Navy. I stamped the banner from "Badges & Banners" set in Old Olive onto a scrap of Whisper White and punched it out with the Duet Banner Punch.

I cut a 1" strip of Old Olive Designer Series Paper from the Color Theory 6" x 6" DSP Pack and flagged the end with the Banner Triple Punch. And I cut a Whisper White square with one of the Stitched Shapes Framelits.

Now that I had all the elements for the card, I was ready to assemble them. I started with a Thick Whisper White Card Stock card base, cut lengthwise,  and added a 3-7/8" by 5-1/8" Crushed Curry mat and then a 3-3/4" by 5" Whisper White panel.  I adhered the stitched square onto the card and then the Old Olive DSP banner. I tied a length of Crushed Curry Mini Chevron Ribbon onto the end of the DSP banner. I adhered the sailboat piece to the card with Stampin' Dimensionals. Finally, I added the "welcome, baby" banner to the card with Stampin' Dimensionals, too.

Now I'm ready for the next baby shower. Bring it on ladies!!
