Creation Station: Where the Wild Things Are...Party Animals!

#stampinup   #creationstation   #faithfulinkspirations   Hello and welcome to the August edition of the Creation Station blog hop! Our team has a fun assignment this month--creating wild things and party animals!

When my kids were small, one of my favorite books was "Where the Wild Things Are" by Maurice Sendak. I love that book because it shows a mother's love for her child--even when he's been so wild he's been sent to his room for a time out! #spoileralert I love the last line of the book: ..."and it was still hot." That book speaks to me of a mother's love--I'm not sure any of my kids understood that (and I'm not sure they'd get it now, even though they're nearly grown ups), but that book has always touched my heart.

So I had fun pulling out the stops to create a wild, party animal for this month's hop. I don't have too many animals in my collection of stamps, so I settled on the largest bird image in the "Free as a Bird" stamp set. I also had fun (and a little frustration) coloring a number of birds in fanciful colors--on Whisper White and on Watercolor Paper. I made some plaid birds, too. They were cute, but they weren't exactly right.

Then I thought about stacking the birds on top of each other and coloring them in Peeps colors. I couldn't quite get them to stack the way I'd envisioned. So I got out my Stamparatus and stepped the plate down to stamp the birds in a column in Memento Tuxedo Black. Then I moved the bird over and stepped the plate down for the next column, and so on. I liked the background image and decided that I needed a bird to let his freak flag fly and shake his tail feathers. He needed to stand out in a crowd.

So, I stamped the same bird image in Tuxedo Black onto Whisper White and colored him with Light and Dark Flirty Flamingo Stampin' Blends. I wanted him to be glittery so I sprinkled on some Silver and Gold Stampin' Emboss Powder--just a light dusting of powder on the bird and on the background. I set the embossing powder with my Heat Gun held underneath. (Trying to set it from the top will just blow the powder off the card stock; ask me how I know). Then I colored the bird with my Wink of Stella and sprinkled on Clear Stampin' Emboss Powder and set that with the Heat Tool, so now the bird sparkles and shines.

I cut out the bird image with a square Stitched Shape Die and adhered it to a scalloped Magenta Madness Card Stock Square that I cut with one of the Layering Squares Dies. I made a headdress for the bird by cutting three small leaves from the Forever Flourishing Dies and used a dot of Multi-Purpose Liquid Glue to adhere them to the bird's head. Next, I placed three Basic Rhinestone Jewels at the base of the leaves and colored them with the Dark Flirty Flamingo Stampin' Blend. I added some Wink of Stella to the leaves to make them sparkle, too.

I stamped the "Be You" sentiment from the "Rooted in Nature" stamp set in Magenta Madness Ink onto a Whisper White scrap, sprinkled on Clear Stampin' Emboss Powder, and set it with my Heat Tool. I cut the sentiment out with my Paper Snips and used a tiny strip cut off the edge of a sheet Stampin' Dimensionals to adhere the sentiment to the card.

I took a roundabout route to get to this finished card, but I'm super pleased with how it turned out!

Next up is the fabulous Mikaela Titheridge.

Have fun exploring our wild and crazy party animals!

Jar of Thanks

#stampinup   #faithfulinkspirations   When I opened the new Stampin' Up Annual Catalog and saw the awesome Flowers for Every Season Mega Suite on pages 10 through 13 and noticed the Jar Punch that coordinates with the "Jar of Flowers" stamp set, I think I squealed! I love a matching punch because it's so quick and easy. And those Mason Jar Shaker Domes--wow!

We used some product from this suite to do our make and takes for our Proverbial Stampers new catalog gathering. I really like the subtle colors on this card--taken from one of the sheets of Flowers for Every Season 6" by 6" Designer Series Paper. Have a look!

I started with a Just Jade Card Stock card base and added a 4" by 5-1/4" Blushing Bride Card Stock panel. On top of that, I adhered a 1" by 5-1/4" strip of the pretty Flowers for Every Season DSP.

Next, I stamped one of the flower arrangement images from the "Jar of Flowers" set in Memento Tuxedo Black Ink onto a Whisper White piece that I cut with one of the Stitched Rectangles Dies. I used Light Mint Macaron, Light Petal Pink, and Light Daffodil Delight Stampin' Blends to color the flowers. Then, I stamped the jar in Balmy Blue Ink onto Whisper White Card Stock and punched it out with the Jar Punch. I adhered the rectangular panel to the card with Stampin' Dimensionals and then I adhered the jar to the card with more Stampin' Dimensionals.

I stamped a sentiment from the "Free as a Bird" stamp set in Balmy Blue onto a 1/4" Whisper White strip and snipped the end with my Paper Snips. I tucked this behind the jar. I then tied a knot in a length of Just Jade Gingham Ribbon from the Flowers for Every Season Ribbon Combo Pack and adhered it to the card with a Mini Glue Dot.

You can purchase the "Jar of Flowers" stamp set in a bundle with the Jar Punch and save 10% off the price of purchasing them separately. Or you can splurge and get the entire Flowers for Every Season Mega Suite with one item number (item 154132)!

Texas Bluebells

#stampinup   #faithfulinkspirations  I have a fun technique to share with you today. I learned this from Lydia Fiedler over at the Understand Blue blog. Lydia is an extraordinary artist and mentor and she always encourages me to create outside my box. Today's technique is one of those times where I had to get messy and make mistakes and then made a little bit of art.

I don't remember what Lydia called this technique, if she even had a name for it. But here's how it goes. Start by gathering several cotton swabs and binding them together with a rubber band, like this. (You'll see that I've already used these swabs.)

Then use your water-fill Stampin' Spritzer to wet a piece of Watercolor Paper. You'll want to get it fairly wet, but not dripping. Then dab your cotton swabs into whatever ink you want and then onto the wet Watercolor Paper. I used Pacific Point, Highland Heather, and Crushed Curry to make the tops of my Texas Bluebells. And I used a Water Painter to paint in some Old Olive stems.

As this piece was drying (and I probably used my Heat Tool to speed it along), I cut a Highland Heather Card Stock frame with one of the Ornate Layers Dies. I also embossed a 4" by 5-1/4" piece of Granny Apple Green Card Stock with the Subtle Embossing Folder. I wrapped a length of Whisper White Polka Dot Tulle around that before adhering it to a Purple Posy Card Stock card base.

To finish the card, I used a Stitched Rectangle Die to cut out my bluebells and stamped a sentiment from the "Free as a Bird" stamp set in Highland Heather Ink at the top. I adhered that to the ornate frame and then adhered the frame to the card with Stampin' Dimensionals.

Every once in a while I like stamping outside my box, and I'm so grateful to Lydia for her encouragement and mentorship!
